@killyourfm surprised!I typically don’t have notifications on for work email; there is SO MUCH in email that I treat it more like poll versus push; I venture in there at the beginning of the day and occasionally throughout the day, but otherwise I typically won’t see new mail arrive in realtime.

@killyourfm in my work email especially, since I've published some scientific paper the amount of spam is abnoxious. Plus I get lots of useless and overwhelming comunications from the university itself.

@killyourfm @toad it's not the email client that makes me feel bad, curious, excited, annoyed or scared. It's the context I'm living in, the task I'm trying to do, the news I'm expecting. When I'm on vacation and I see a badge notification on my smartphone, I'm usually curious, scared and annoyed at the same time...

This is only because of the context that I check my inbox exactly once, at the beginning of the day, and keep it closed thereafter. So "checking email" is, to me, synonymous with "taking time to decide how I am going to structure the rest of my day".

@killyourfm These days it is curiosity. Up until relatively recently it was apathy. I was always going to or coming from a meeting so I used to just get phone calls from others that notified me of something I should respond to. I still have a small avalanche of email backlog. Even to that backlog I remain apathetic, it’s just work, it’s just email, if it’s important someone will notify me through another means
