@grammargirl Don't forget Google Translate can play text as audio — helpful for repeating and repeating and repeating French words.

@grammargirl I don't know if this will be remotely helpful in the future, but there are sites that will read French phrases out loud to you so you can practice. I made use of one a few years ago for a recording and it was super helpful. (Can't find the specific site again though, sorry.)

@junecasagrande That's generally how it goes:1. Say word completely wrong.2. Go to Google Translate.3. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Mutter, mutter, mutterAnd then I repeat all these steps a few times until I get close. It's like my brain can't process the French sounds!

@grammargirl I took 2 1/2 years of French in college and loved it, but never had much chance to *speak* it. It was mostly grammar. Now, Ted and I just happen to be heading to France on vacation soon so I'm brushing up, and I'm shocked at how much I struggle with some sounds, especially R at the beginning of a word with an internal R. It's maddening that something I thought I was naturally good at is so hard.

@grammargirl @junecasagrande I would say the words in Spanish to make sure your lips aren't in sync, then clumsily overdub the audio from a French speaker with a very different voice.

@grammargirl No lie, when I was doing the audiobook for Big Podcast, which you're mentioned in, I listened to your podcast intro probably a dozen times to verify and was still nervous about being able to get it right.My biggest fear with long audio projects is recording them too hot (or otherwise not to standard). But a VERY close second is messing up somebody's name.
