       If you're using ChatGPT in Britain, is it responding with British English spellings (e.g., "colour") and words (e.g., "caravan" instead of "RV"), or are you getting responses in American English?#ChatGPT

       @grammargirl If you ask it to speak British, ChatGPT3.5 keeps writing American spelling regardless. If you ask Chat GPT 4, it will use "colour" and suggest putting beans on toast.  If you don't tell it you're British and want to hear British English, it will suggest 20 things to put on toast, but not beans.The bot has no idea where you are. Bard has a feature to tell the bot where you are tho, but I didn't do any experiments with it.

       @grammargirl can't you just try write your prompt using British English?If I use Italian it answer in the same language regardless my location

       @grammargirl Can't speak for the UK, but here in Australia I just got a response that included the AmE "honoring". And when I tried to prompt Australian spelling by asking it to explain "colour theory", the reply used "color" throughout.

       Editing is a human skill, one that by necessity needs an iterative process between humans. AI isn't capable of that to the degree needed to produce a quality result. A professional editor is worth their weight in gold, esp for those who want professional copy. #AmEditing #EditorsOfMastodon #Authors #Academic
