I built my own low-power LoRaWAN pulse counter to monitor my water usage using #thethingsntwr and @homeassistant! This project is based on the #seeedstudio #XIAO board and the #NRF #NRF52840 MCU. This board is well suited for this project since it’s cheap, small, and allows very low power consumption, which is perfect for a battery operated device!#ARM #lowpower

It also uses the @PINE64 #LoRa module, which is based on the SX1262 LoRa transceiver.

This project would not have been possible without 2 very important tools : the #NRF #PPKII PowerProfilerKit II and the #saleae Logic 8 logic analyzer! They allow for easy debugging and power profiling!

The PCB was designed using #Fritzing, a FOSS tool to design your breadboard and PCB! I have had my PCB printed by their service #FritzingLAB and @aislerhq!

I’m using my @PINE64 #LoRaWAN gateway to connect to the #thethingsntwr #TTN network

The results are transferred from #TTN to my #HA @homeassistant instance thanks to #MQTT and #NodeRED !

@JF @homeassistant nice project! Why using an application message counter instead of LoRaWAN frame counter?

@oliv @homeassistant I added the message counter as an easy way to debug and check that all messages were receives as expected. I could use the LoRaWAN frame counter, but I would have to check if this counter is available in the JSON payload sent over MQTT.Thanks for the info, though!

@JF @homeassistant OK, if you need it the future for TTN if is in msg["uplink message"] ["f_cnt"]It is just one byte but over time every byte counts 😁

@JF Thank you for using our service! For your next designs, I would suggest using a copper or ground fill. That makes manufacturing your design easier. https://community.aisler.net/t/copper-distribution/2727

@aislerhq Thanks for the hint! Do you know if Frizting can help adding this copper plate?
