No wonder MotoGP is so much more cut-throat and competitive than F1. Creating a level playing field is such an integral part of MotoGP's technical regulations.Today I learnt:- Teams that are low in the standings get concessions (more testing time, more development) to catch up with the field- The bikes are heavily standardized, leaving very little room for innovation (this is why MotoGP is almost purely about the driver, not the constructor)#F1 needs to take some notes.

@adz I enjoy the technical aspect of it just as much as the actual driving ability. There are so many more variables and constraints.A good driver will be always good. But cars have many variables, can be optimized for diferrent conditions and develop with diferrent philosophies. If you want stock cars there's Indie already.

@matzipanYeah I don't want stock cars. That would be so boring. @adz

@adz oh that sounds pretty smart. I do think F1 is going there with new car regulations in terms of trying to standardize the cars as much as possible, but I could be wrong. As far as additional testing times, there is a good story about this in Guenther's book. In 2022 Haas plane got delayed in Turkey for no fault of the team. As a result, they missed a day of testing. They requested additional testing and got granted but they heard that someone on the paddock pushed back against it

@adz they dug deeper and found out someone at McLaren was making a HUGE fuss about it and were adamant Haas do not get the additional time. How ridic is that? Some of those guys are so competitive they are sick in their heads...

@laimis wow. Makes no sense. McLaren had nothing to gain either, they weren't competing with Haas back then. Weird.

@adz EXACTLY!!! It was pure pettiness. Guenther said in the book he found out who it was and went right to them to straighten things out:

@adz I found out a few weeks ago that Andreas was the person who had argued against us receiving extra testing time in Bahrain, even though it wasn’t our fault that the freight was late arriving. When I found out I thanked him for being a sportsman and asked him why he would do something like that. He just laughed at me. I then told him exactly what would happen if he laughed at me again and he stopped. I’m fine with people having different views to me about the way teams are set up and operate

@PhilGastwirth @adz I think the pettiness was always there, don't you think? It's such an environment of always being out of time, any slightest edge makes a world of a difference on the field, teams constantly trying to come up with tricks and "cheating!" is a quick draw, and yeah, rewards for winning are significant vs not getting much for just competing.
