@arstechnica @music Technically this can happen on any platform, but most companies are not this callous. That said, he should consider creating a #Fediverse account, preferably on an instance he owns.

@darnell Ultimately it behooves any one who wants to share their thoughts to have their own personal domainand website where there are the sole arbiter of their content and online persona

@rm4 I agree. Owning your own platform is critical, & we will probably see more of this as time goes on due to global dissatisfaction with the status quo.I think #ActivityPub will inspire people to setup their own blogs again in order to connect to the #Fediverse (once #Threads embraces ActivityPub, people will probably opt to connect via their own blog or website, rather than one owned by a nefarious corporation).

@darnell @rm4 yes, I agree. People are realising the dangers of one person / company owning their content. #Blogs are the simplest, most accessible means to own your content, and then the various social media platforms will just be distribution channels for that material.#Mastodon #ActivityPub #Threads #X #Twitter

@gpollara @darnell @rm4 Funny enough, #Fediverse now have two platforms specifically for blogs, WriteFreely and Wordpress (with plugins).Though I think if Fediverse platforms can be made like blog platforms, it would make more sense to me.

@natsume_shokogami @gpollara @rm4 π There are actually four #ActivityPub powered blog platforms:ππΎ #WriteFreely (https://writefreely.org)ππΎ #WordPress (with plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/activitypub/)ππΎ #Drupal (with plugin: https://www.drupal.org/project/activitypub)ππΎ #MicroBlog (https://help.micro.blog/t/mastodon-and-activitypub/95)#PostNews & #Tumblr will join the #Fediverse later on, bringing the total to five & a half (Post News does not yet support custom domains so I gave it half a point π).

@darnell @natsume_shokogami @rm4 can I ask re the WordPress plugin. I REALLY like the idea that replies on Mastodon automatically become comments on the blog page. However, does that only work for the blog Mastodon account that is created by the plugin? I. E. If I share my blog post from this Mastodon account, can the replies to it still create comments on the blog?Thank you for input. I'm v actively looking to set this up in the coming weeks.

@gpollara @natsume_shokogami @rm4 #WordPress plug allows you to mention #Fediverse handles, but if they reply all you get (from what I have seen) is an email that you were mentioned, along with a permalink.
