@SylvieLorxu for now this seems to be limited to new accounts.To me this is a class issue. Rich people will just rent an office somewhere and use that address instead of their home address.

@daniel As stated in the first screenshot: "Developers with existing Play Console accounts will also be required to provide this information soon."It's definitely yet another thing that disproportionally affects those poorer and/or queer and that the rich can easily avoid accountability for, yeah. It shows the importance of us all standing together to protect ourselves, no matter which of us is being attacked specifically.

@raccoon True. As a queer person my own focus tends to be on my own community and a legal name tends to be more dangerous for trans devs than cis devs, but there are also many valid reasons for cis devs to work under something else than their legal name and to want to keep all address info hidden.

You better dox yourself".It's fucked up and dangerous, there's some insane people out there and I wouldn't be surprised to read the news and find an article like "Player angry because the game was too hard finds developer and beats them with a baseball bat"I HOPE this will make people use alternative stores more.

@SylvieLorxu Your post seems a bit inaccurate, yes it seems they will publish PII but only up to the legal name, email address and country, the rest is still private account information. Doesn't mean I won't be reconsidering publishing on Google Play if they seriously publish my legal name.

yes, they will not reveal your identity. Copy/paste from elsewhere on the internet because I'm too lazy to look up their actual statutes:(1) no state citizenship requirement(2) no state income tax on individuals or business entities(3) no state franchise tax on LLCs(4) no state estate or inheritance tax(5) 1,000-year limitation on perpetuities(6) strong asset protection laws(7) foreign special purpose vehicles are authorized (meaning your Wyoming LLC can be the sole member of LLCs in California holding investment real property, for example).

@mononoaware @SylvieLorxu It’s more complicated then that. In my case - having a paid app on Google Play - Google will publish my billing address which is the same address my bank account is under. In order for that not to be my home address I would have to set up a company; get a virtual address for my company. This requires a lease. Virtual offices where you get a lease do exists but they costs more then "just a couple of bucks in some places".Plus the overhead of filing taxes for you company

I understand it is an issue for developers, but it is good to know (if I understand correctly) it is not related to ordinary non-developer users of Google Play. Correctly understood?
