Sad. It appears that my public IP rotates fairly quickly with the new ISP, and it's making me feel ☹️. Having a static IP would be nice. The regional small ISP used by my parents provides static IPs by default, and it was awesome (except the speed and stability lol)! My parents still have the same public IP they had back in 2011. #isp #fiber #homelab

@CenturyAvocado This would be an alternative to dynamic dns. However, ips used by data centers are blocked sometimes for certain pages. Maybe I will just ask friendly and they will give me an static ip 🤔 They also habe business plans which have static ips as option. But I don’t want to pay for business. Maybe they will allow me to add the static ip option to my residential plan.

@noim what isn't working well with dynamic DNS? Usually all good unless it's access control lists on a remote system in which case that's a problem :D

@CenturyAvocado This is one issue. *Looking at you, namecheap api*. I mean, a pretty small issue, but it exists. And with dynamic dns there is always the possibility for it to fail and not update or some dns caching etc.

@noim Sounds like a situation where I'd get a VPS or L2TP tunnel from Andrews & Arnold and route just the namecheap API down it :)
