@lednabm I've noticed this is one of those issues that the left and right disagree on very strongly - right wing people* overwhelmingly hate single mothers. I understand some aspects of why these differences might occur, but there are things I don't really get about To explain the position on the right:The general view on them on the right is that most of them have made a choice that would result in them being single (either by picking a particularly poor partner or - as is increasingly common - by leaving the partner they have). This leads people on the right to not view them as victims of a circumstance, but as people who have chosen their position in life. Moreover, children of single mothers are abused much more often than children in two-parent households. Those of us who had to endure those situations are not exactly emotionally attached to our mothers - when we end up on the right, we tell our stories, and are heard.I understand why the first point is disagreeable on the left, but I have no explanation for the second. I'm wondering if people raised by single mothers might filter right/left wing based on the way their mother treated them, or if there's just a lot of different stories going around on the left that get heard more often.(Regardless of whoever else might file in, this is a sincere inquiry - I don't intend this to be an argument of any kind, I am actually just asking why the dynamics on the left are the way they are.)*To clarify, I mean the rank and file, not any party's leadership.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating To some extent, this seems like a none of your business issue for the right or left. You know, like abortion is nobody's, other than the woman's buisness. After all, no child chooses the family they're born into. I think JM is just being honest based on his experience. Women do not get enough credit or compensation for being a single parent, by choice or not. And patriarchy, along with religion, is a terrible thing. We can see the results of both.

@lednabm >To some extent, this seems like a none of your business issue for the right or left.If it boils down to this, then I understand. Left wing people tend to adopt the "if it harms nobody else, do as you will" ethos, and right wing people tend to adopt the "someone hurting themselves hurts the people around them" ethos.Hey, thanks for explaining that. Even if I disagree, I can at least understand where you're coming from a lot clearer now.
