As I'm going through the indictment more closely.What I see: The goal was to for Trump to stay in the White House and then use the military to keep him there.So far I see two mentions from co-conspirators that they understand the timeline to be like this:🔹 Trump finds pretexts to stay in the White House.🔹 When the date passes in which he is supposed to leave, there will be "riots" in the street.🔹 Trump then uses the military to put down the protests.1/

In other words, people have settled on the "January 6 attempted insurrection."In fact, the planned insurrection was later. @Teri_Kanefield Oh, it’d have worked. It takes far fewer soldiers to occupy a country when roughly half of it actually welcomes it.The modern armed State will almost always win. Chiefly because the most potent response one thinks of is peaceful protests. We saw what 800 almost totally peaceful protests in the summer of 2020 accomplished with respect to laws about police brutality.I do agree that we massively discounted the true violence that was being contemplated after J6.

@staidwinnow @tomjennings except, and this is the important thing, he does less well every time he runs. I would peg hardcore Trumpers as 20-25% of the population. The rest voted for Trump because they didn’t like Biden. This election is really Biden’s to lose. So far he’s playing it right, letting the Republicans commit all the unforced errors. I’m not saying the danger isn’t there. We absolutely cannot be complacent. But there are a lot fewer people willing to sign onto the Trump batshittery than you think. For one thing, every time the guy is indicted, he’s been calling for his followers to riot in the streets. And each time, the crowd is smaller and politer. If that doesn’t point to his dwindling power, I don’t know what would.
