@realcaseyrollins @kottke Loved it. I haven't followed the reviews. I was annoyed by how much the transformation didn't look like the actress, but that was all. It was full of subtle commentary on the female v male experience in high powered situations etc. Reminded of the 1st season of Jessica Jones on Netflix. Remembering that the comic always broke the 4th wall, it worked.

@wjmaggos @kottke Huh. Finding someone who likes #SheHulk is as rare as me finding a good girlfriend; it’s never happened! 😜 To be fair, most of the episodes did have some good stuff in em, even if it was rare and overshadowed by terrible writing. The humor in episode 4 was great when it worked, the backdoor pilot for #DaredevilBornAgain was great, the finale (despite being a miss) took some big creative swings that I appreciated, and the two episodes before it did try to do a little bit of character development. But as a whole, the show is just awful. The feminist messaging was about as subtle as a wildfire at midnight. I’ve never seen a show that had sexist depictions of both men and women before, but this show served up heaping helpings of that. Bruce was woefully misused and abused, not just as a character (that spanned just one episode to be fair), but as a plot device. It’s a hard show to take seriously because everybody’s so cartoonish, yet it’s hard to take it as a comedy because it’s so unfunny. That said she’s not the worst character we’ve seen in the #MCU, she’s still leagues better than #CaptainMarvel as a character, and how well she worked with #Daredevil shows that she can really hold her own when working with another superhero, I’m suspecting that she’ll actually be a pleasant character to watch in crossover events.I’m a bit curious, what part of the commentary on men vs. women did you find to be good, or subtle? I found the commentary on moth sexes just plain bad, and not subtle at all. I found women in the show to be depicted as either obsessed with dating and sleeping around, unserious and unprofessional, or woefully insecure with crippling superiority complexes, while the men were depicted as equally insecure and either arrogant, stupid, or nefarious, sexist and feeling entitled to sex, and unable to succeed in life without nepotism or a competent wife who can keep things afloat. The show didn’t have a good think to say about either sex; it seems to think that women are better than men, but it doesn’t even give us any clues as to why.

@realcaseyrollins @kottke it was a comedy. it was flipping a lot of roles, that was the point. to play with stereotypes. a woman can like to fuck and not care about her clothes etc. the idea wasn't to present a feminist perspective, but wink along with the audience. I remember loving the magician court room scene. and her inability to unzip Daredevil's costume.

@wjmaggos @kottke I do understand playing with stereotypes, but if you make all the stereotypes bad, it’s not fun anymore, it’s just mean. It’s not bad that #SheHulk wants to have sex, nor that having sex is one of her primary goals in life necessarily, but that it’s the same goals of her contemporaries, except for her nemesis perhaps, and her mom. Sexualizing women writ large seems to play into stereotypes rather than playing with them.I do agree with the Magician stuff though, that episode was almost hilarious.

@willie @wjmaggos @kottke #SheHulk definitely has some good but the good outweighs the bad in the same way that a feather outweighs a paperweight
