This week's net.wars, "The music and the myth", answers a young friend's question. "What do you know about Woodstock?": https://netwars.pelicancrossing.net/2023/07/28/the-music-and-the-myth/ #NetWars #Film #Protest

@wendyg thanks for that. I was 13 at the time, but us misfit kids in Franklin Mass heard about it, considered (and rejected) 'running away'/hitchhiking to go. Not sure if I should regret that or not.

@tomjennings Depends how much you like crowds, mud, and hunger. :)

@wendyg Lol, at 13 I would have loved it. We'd already taken LSD that summer! In 8th grade south-east Massachusetts! In hindsight it's still weird to think about. No regrets there.

@tomjennings Wow, that's young. I didn't encounter pot until I was 16, and then and now I was the person who just handed the joint on to the next person and didn't try it. I knew a guy freshman year in college who used LSD and it seemed enormously daring and dangerous. (He was a mess.)

@wendyg Indeed it was, though we didn't realize just how much at the time. Other than a couple of obviously-badly setup bum trips, nothing but good experience with it. But my other high school mates ended up with heroin, from one of their older brothers who was a vietnam vet.My family was/is a disaster, we were on our own a lot, but somehow I developed early on an instinct to avoid destruction. I consider myself lucky.

@tomjennings An instinct to avoid destruction is very valuable.

@wendyg Indeed! I consider myself lucky in that regard.
