@alex I used Tusky on my Android tablet and realized that you and your partner's instance spinster.xyz was in a blacklist called "rickroll domains" which triggers Rick Astley's music video to come up when you enter the domain into Tusky. Their FAQ says, "if this offends you, find another app", so I forked it and removed the rickroll Anti-Feature. Why would Tusky put spinster.xyz in that blacklist and do you think blacklists go against fediverse ethics?

@sayartyler I would not say what they're doing is unethical, but it definitely goes against the Fediverse ethos. Also, it goes against the logos. The Fediverse is inherently resistance to censorship, but they're building blacklist systems instead of whitelists, and then crying and screaming whenever they see something they don't like. They need and want something to be angry about, so that's why they do it. That's the pathos.

@malakai @alex @gvs Yeah I used Husky before when I dabbled in Pleroma. The issue is that my instance is Mastodon-based and Husky integrated a lot of Pleroma features like emoji reacts that I can't use. I tried to migrate my server to glitch-soc the other week and failed. I'm still pretty new to self-hosting Fediverse stuff. Any recommendations on how to migrate are welcome!

Oh so you’re using Mastodon. In that case, Megalodon and its fork Moshidon are very good on Android and Ice Cubes is a very nice free app on iOS. Sorry I can’t help when it comes to Mastodon, never hosted it myself. I’ll boost your post just in case I have someone in my followers who knows something.

I self-host a PeerTube instance and wanted a microblogging thing mostly for myself and for people who know me, in case I ever decided to leave centralized platforms. I knew that Mastodon was the most popular and being a n00b to self-hosting, I figured it would have the most support.

It might be easier for him to create a new instance (maybe on a subdomain) running glitch-soc and migrating the account to it than trying to convert the current one to it. I don’t know if it’s even possible to move an existing stock Masto instance to glitch

I’ve only migrated once - from Akkoma (a Pleroma fork) to Calckey (recently rebranded to Firefish), both self-hosted. If you aren’t familiar with them, they’re compatible with Masto, but have a lot more features like full-text search, emoji reacts, quote posts etc. Also less resource intensive.It was relatively straightforward. Follows and followers moved smoothly (sometimes people have problems with this). The thing that doesn’t move are the posts, which is the elephant in the room that nobody mentions when they say “moving instances is easy!” Currently, the only software that lets you move your posts with you is Firefish.

It supports a special, very fancy version of Markdown, complete with buzzing, bouncing, rotating text and emoji (you can turn those off if you dislike them). Like I said, it’s pretty flashy :-)

@sayartyler @alex FYI there's also Husky, a bigger fork. It has some Pleroma-specific features (which is the main purpose of the fork) but I think it should work with Mastodon as well; I'm not sure though.
