I would have yeeted the type 11 in favor of making the type 99 lmg universal. But otherwise wouldn't have changed much. Knee mortar seems to have been a legitimately good idea for the era.

@Boomerman @nugger @confederatehobo Really, I know the IJN used British shipyards for building a lot of their navy in the 1800s and into the 1900s (they wouldnât have won the Russo-Japanese war if not for that). But they never had the industry to build good rifles and machine guns? Even by the 1930s and 1040s?

@johnnyappleseed @nugger @confederatehobo Guns require lots of strong metals and small parts compared too something like a boat. The oil embargo america had really fucked them and kneecapped a lot the manufacturing they were moving into. They also didnt have a centuries old gun history like America or germany so they were basically bootstrapping that as well. Its why nambus kinda look like lugers they didnt really know how to make them and had too copy lots of stuff.

The SDF still has their equipment made in Japan. Their newest type 20 looks like a Scar clone.Winchester had miroku make rifles for them like the 94 and 700 for awhile, though I don't know if that's still the case.

After their rapid industrialization that started shortly after 1868 (Meiji restoration) they used up what iron they had access to domestically very fast.Sidenote: coal and oil were also very rare and that led to things like building an undersea mine/small city for thousands of people on a tiny island off the coast of Nagasaki, just because it was one of the few areas with coal deposits.
