       @stux   Big guns, big trucks, many in US want these badly, to make up for feelings of having a small body part.  It's not really dividing the country many polls show a majority want some restrictions.  It's the loud MAGA types, supported by $$$$$ from special interests.

       @stux The 'right's to carry a firearm IS part of the (US) American identity.  It is for the state to protect its citizens, not the individual (one of the reasons we pay taxes.)  Small arms will not protect the citizenry from the armed forces which constitutionally are at the disposal of the US, even if tyrannical.  If only legislation can protect the citizen, the the constitution requires modification.  The private ownership of guns should be curtailed and the firearms 'put beyond use.'

       @stuxI wouldn't say owning firearms is part of my identity as an American, but I will always have one. Having been the victim of a hate crime that was shrugged off by police, I will not be defenseless in this place.
