So. Yeah. #Storytime. Over the years I've been known to call up various friends & mention to them that I was going to do something #crazy, like idk... peddle a bike 100 miles through #DeathValley. they, also being crazy, join the "fun" So... my dad (who rode the Death Valley century with me, @badgerops & @jesseops) called me a few days ago.For context you need to understand I hate swimming & running. I've always said I'd do an #Ironman if it weren't for all the swimming & running. (1/?)

So yeah, I like endurance sports except swimming & running. The call from Dad was a week ago. It went something like this. Him: hey, there's a hike I want us to do next year. Me: ok. When/where? Him: starts up at the head of agency creek, it's an annual event, I'll send you the link. Me: sounds fun. At this point, I'm all in. I love hiking and backpacking. And I love that area. (2/?)

So, he doesn't actually send me the link, he sends me a route map. 👀 This is where things start escalating. I notice it starts on the divide. Lemhi pass. (Ok, great, love that area)31 miles.(Ok, so I guess he is planning one or two nights backpacking)The route is the Continental Divide. (Challenging route, but cool)Then I get the link to the event. It's a FUCKING ULTRA MARATHON!!! On the #CDTIn the beaverhead mountains. #W#T#F(3/?)

I show the event to my wife, hoping for her to back me up on this being too crazy. Her: "it's not like you're going to say no."(Pause) Her: "you really should start training" Then she said something along the lines of "at least you're really good at suffering..." idk what she said past that. I just started picturing the amount of suffering I'm in for doing an ultra marathon at 10,000' on top of the most remote mountains in the Rockies.#ugh (4/?)

@zebpalmer Hoo-boy. I have a friend that attempts ultra marathons on trails all the time. He never finishes because his body completely falls apart ten miles or so from the finish. His descriptions are so brutal and I just don't understand the addiction to it.
