He had first won in 1966 with confrontational rhetoric toward the University of California public college system and executed confrontational policies when in office. In May 1970, Reagan shut down all 28 UC and Cal State campuses in the midst of student protests against the Vietnam War and the U.S. bombing of Cambodia. On October 29, less than a week before the election, his education adviser #Roger A. #Freeman spoke at a press conference to defend him.Freeman’s remarks were reported the next day in the San Francisco Chronicle under the headline “Professor Sees Peril in Education.” According to the Chronicle article, Freeman said, “We are in #danger of producing an #educated #proletariat. … That’s dynamite! @Mary625 @cdarwin @mekkaokereke I was alive then but my memories of Reagan were mostly laughing at the sketches on Saturday Night Live. It wasn’t until later I found his influence on making life and education difficult for poorer folks. At least he wasn’t Nixon who I thought was a crook. I do have memories of the Watergate Hearings. But he was surpassed by Trump who behaves like a mobster.

@strong_sue @cdarwin @mekkaokereke I remember Reagan and all his horrible policies. I remember him busting unions. I don't remember what he did as governor really.Watergate and pardoning Nixon is why we have trump. One of the many reasons.

@Mary625 @cdarwin @mekkaokereke what he did as governor was to hike state college tuition from free to making kids pay for it.Watergate break in revealed some of the same behavior down to deliberately deleting or trying to delete evidence 18 1/2 minutes of a tape for Nixon vs a whole server’s footage after receiving a grand jury subpoena for Trump.Unrelated, I could never stand #TrickyDick ever since I first saw him on TV as a child, thought he was a crook then.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watergate_scandal?wprov=sfti1
