@lednabmLots of things are real. Doesn’t mean we should worship them.

@TruthSandwich I think you're missing the point, but if not honoring nature is a wonderful thing.

@lednabmI get the point: worshipping the sun is less ridiculous than worshipping something that doesn’t even exist. My point: worship is bad. The sun is a hot ball of fusing gas. It is mindless and uncaring. Worshipping it is, well, dumb. That’s because worship is dumb.

@TruthSandwich By strict definition of the word worship, you are correct. I'm sort of taking the word more colloquially. If I say I worship my car, I don't necessarily think it's a deity, but something I have great affection for or honor for some characteristic. There is indeed a slippery slope here from the evil abrahamic religions through to the eastern religions. I will just leave this as there is nothing wrong with identifying nature as one with us and us with it. Calling it or any imaginary thing a deity or God is very dualistic and not something to be proud of.

@lednabmIf you dig into the etymological roots of “deity”, it looks like it can be traced back to the same word that got us “day”. In other words, our generic word for a god dates back to worshipping the sky as a god.So, yes, the line between worshiping the sun as a concrete thing and as an anthropomorphized abstract is a blurry one.

@lednabm And so was the human sacrifice.

@shakil_tcs Ahhh... but you say that, like to them, sacrifice wasn't an honor. Try again genius...

@lednabm Tell that to the victims, especially the crying children whose tears supposedly brought rainfall.

@shakil_tcs You do mean the rainfall that caused the crops to grow and life to go on. Sorry, but I think you don't understand the times, nor the mythology.
