If you're still using Chrome for performance reasons:- Firefox is now faster than Chrome out-of-the-box- Firefox uses less memory than Chrome- Contrary to Chrome, Firefox does not restrict Ad blockers, which will make your browsing experience much faster (and safer).

@nitrofurano Never tried that one and I'm not convinced it's better than a tweaked Firefox (also it seems to be based on an older version of Firefox)

@bladecoder so, which Firefox alternatives (based on Firefox and drm-free) would you recommend?

@pl @bladecoder one of the problems is that is turned on by default, and the other one is that they started on implementing it - and how easily we will be able to disable it in the next versions?

@nitrofurano That's exactly what it is about — the defaults. My FF has all telemetry, WebP and VP9 disabled. Has all the necessary exts: uBO, LibRedirect, DecentralEyes, ForgetMeNot and Privacy Possum + a few others I like. And its UI is *heavily* tweaked. I doubt it's any different from LIbreWolf at this point. But were I starting afresh, I'd probably go with LibreWolf because saner defaults make sense.@pl @bladecoder

@nitrofurano One more thing: you get security updates earlier with base FF, forks take some time at least for the patches to get rebased and to get built for all platforms — but I'm pretty sure it doesn't take a great deal of time 🤷 @pl @bladecoder

@bladecoder @garrett Better don’t make a fuss over the speed gains, it can backfire hard:»Some people may have noticed recently that #Firefox looks to be outperforming Chrome, but these are automated tests on ancient CI machines, for Tiger Lake/Zen3+ CPUs it's a completely different story.«https://www.phoronix.com/forums/forum/phoronix/latest-phoronix-articles/1399787-intel-avx10-taking-avx-512-with-more-features-supporting-it-across-p-e-cores?p=1399810#post1399810

@frumble @garrett I ran speedometer on my own Intel laptop under Linux and Firefox scored 20% more than Chrome. In pure JS benchmarks, Chrome scored 10 to 15% more than Firefox. The point is: on average there are both just as fast today.

@bladecoder I doubt these performance gains are even noticeable at this point, in early days 10% might make a huge difference — now I have scripts disabled by default and unload unused tabs just to have longer battery life, I don't even care if it performs faster, especially if it take a synthetic test to notice that, I only care about it taking ~1% to run in the background@frumble @garrett

I would probably end up using Mullvad Browser if it weren't for the fact that Firefox doesn't run properly on Game Mode for me in SteamOS. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@bladecoder why? there are several reasons for that:1. mozilla2. firefox is incredibly bland and have nothing going on for it. 3. firefox have way too much spotlight and due to this many amazing forks are just left out

@kremowkazwadowic The Mozilla Foundation is not perfect, but it's the only contender big enough to fight against a Google monopoly on the web (besides Apple which is not free). Also it's difficult for forks to continously merge the latest features and security patches and stay up-to-date with upstream.I'm not sure what you mean by bland, Firefox can be customized using themes and extensions.

@bladecoder and u guys are saying this E V E R Y T I M E 👏🏻DONT👏🏻SUPPORT👏🏻SHITTY👏🏻SOFTWARE👏🏻dont fucking trust companies, cuz they are *not* your friend. if u need to change one(1) simply thing (lets say wallpaper on home page or custom next tab) u need to install 2137 extensions or search for themes, then its shit, not customization. the only thing firefox have going for it is that its not chromium. thats it.
