America is the land of free and it will leave a mark in history similar to one of the Roman Republic. All these admiration, love, hatred, resentment or any other manifestation of Americana living rent free in peoples' minds just prove the fact of USA being a city on the hill, the lighthouse of the world. It is not ideal, it slowly decays generation after generation and it will definitely end just like anything else in this world but it's the freest place on this planet.

And I hate that founding principles of this country propagated by its Constitution are hated by people of so-called "other developed countries" stuffed with the civilized man parodies, who don't see any difference between words and actions not to say about more complex concepts of a free world. It is such a shame.

@pancakewwwww US is not a bad place, but why is it "the freest place on this planet" when it's secret services have such a high power? When it even persecutes non-citizens for discovering their war crimes or just violating some "copyright"? It's not what should be called "the land of free".

@kotovalexarian You are right but USA is still the freest country on this planet. People say, it is less free than it used to be a century ago and I believe, it's freedoms will be eroding each generation passing but even for now no country could ever achieve such standarts of civil society, no country has civil rights almost invulnerable by default - each country of so-called "First World" neglects plurality of peoples, opinions and life styles in favour of some social engineering project.

@kotovalexarian USA is not the freest land possible but it is the freest land available as for now, even if we take it slow decay into account.I believe, if American Republic actually turns into some beast of an empire, I won't witness that even in the old age. And I wonder, what is going to happen to the rest of the world then.

And I wonder, what is going to happen to the rest of the world then, what kind of a "Soviet Reunion of Eurasia" is going to emerge by that time.

@pancakewwwww I don't see a lot of differences between the US and the EU. Moreover they are the parts of the same civilization and follow the same path. Except that Europe is much older and may be more stable in a long term.

@kotovalexarian I wouldn't say so. United States proved to be stable unlike any European country (maybe except Switzerland and several microstates), which oscillates between revolutions and coups.

@pancakewwwww The American Civil War was not so long ago as the last French revolution AFAIK. The US benefit more from it's geographic isolation rather than it's ideals. Of course this leads to a very interesting intellectual tradition which I appreciate, but it's more luck than superiority. Switzerland is also very lucky.

@pancakewwwww Anyway all this has nothing to do with freedom. Freedom is more about acting in given conditions, not about being lucky to be born in the US.Of course you may always became an American citizen. But do you agree to swear to it's ideals? I don't agree. For me it's a betrayal of liberty.

@kotovalexarian American Civil War was more than 150 years ago, nothing really shaked up USA thay much since then. For those 150 years France had been hanging about Republic and Empire. Same with Germany. Same with Italy. Same with Spain. Same with Eastern Europe.
