@Krisss Brava!Very good!I am learning Italian, at the moment, but have only very rudimentary knowledge of Spanish.It's on my list, though!😁😁😁I love hearing the English language spoken by Danes.Like Sidse Babett Knudsen from Borgen...No Scandi knitwear in that series, unlike in your Krimis!😄Unfortunately, I haven't gotten round to learning Danish, either.That, too, is on the list!I know a little Afrikaans, so might possibly be able to get by with some very basic Dutch.

@MLKSWandSIRS The Danish, or the Scandinavian in general, are always so good in speaking English I find! And yes if you write me something in Zuidafrikaans, I will most probably understand it. The language is basically Dutch, but with some funny twist to it 😊

@Krisss Indeed they do!But with that little clipped twang .... Lovely to listen to.Gives me the shivers.Maybe it's some atavistic response that's passed down through the generations to me...? 🤔Every Norwegian I know (a total of 12, only) speaks English with an American accent of some sort.A few of them told me it's because of watching undubbed US TV shows since childhood.So...why not with Danes, Swedes...or Finns (Nordic, not Scandi)?I wish I knew! 😅1/2

@Krisss My mother was South African (and a proud member of Black Sash) and used to deploy wonderfully elaborate Afrikaans portmanteau words when ruffled...I doubt any of them contained expletives, but...you never know!😁😁😁2/2

@MLKSWandSIRS Well I think in general, most Dutch speak pretty decent English as well. And I believe that is indeed because of films and tv shows with subtitles instead of dubbing, what they do in many European countries. Also we get taught English from the age of 10 and all throughout highschool, and in my case all throughout university as well. And I have since worked a long time for international departments of banks where all communication was in English. 1/2

@MLKSWandSIRS And also being on social media such as this, in an international environment where you speak English helps a lot. You stay up to date! As opposed to French for instance which I have learned for 5 years in highschool, but never really found myself in a situation since where I had to speak French. Other than on holiday there, ordering your vin, pain et du Paturain so to speak 😊2/2
