Federal Reserve raises its key rate for 11th time by a quarter-point in its drive to slow inflation.I wonder if inflation is actually a second/third-order effect of the war in #Ukraine impacting supply chain / logistics costs. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/business/nation/story/2023-07-25/a-fed-still-wary-of-inflation-is-set-to-raise-rates-to-a-22-year-peak-will-it-be-the-last-hike

@paninid Typically, war causes inflation, as can be clearly seen in the US silver price over the past two centuries. However, this is the mother of all complex models; is it inflation vs crude, vs gold, vs a currency basket, vs the average global 2000 calories?

@paninid I thought about currency a bunch 20 year ago, for not being notably wealthy, at all, and a generally bad investor. I'm probably the only lefty goldbug you will meet, I"m convinced that FRNs accelerated GINI explosion and worker/boss disparity, by design.

@paninid It is hard to communicate to the next generation just how weird real economic history is, that 10/10 of the world's biggest banks in 1990 were japanese, how they "invented" ZIRP, just weird.

@M_U ironically, the future may just be more Japanese-like: https://www-drorpoleg-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.drorpoleg.com/future-of-real-estate-look-to-japan/amp/

@paninid It's *everything*. Greed, printing too much money in a very short period of time, war, how currency is traded/not traded globally, hording of wealth/resources...The all of it. Only thing I don't get is we all know how this ends (not well) so why we do it? 🤔
