I bought me a refurbished VHS/DVD player and a old flat screen TV, after struggling with these flat panel smart TVs for the past five years. I paid like $75 bucks for both, taking my time to find the right opportunity. I just set up my little old school TV and player and I'm watching a tape I haven't seen in over 20 years. It's Riverdance‐ I forgot how beautiful the music and dancing were. Next, I'm watching the Gypsy Kings.I miss the simpler life and now I'm gone kick it old school.

@MMA I still have my RIVERDANCE and Lord of the Dance. I love the dancing and music. I’ll never throw away those vcr’s. Have many including Sound of Music. I’m hoping I’ve still my vcr in storage. I’ll have to check.💕

@MMA This is the way to go! Same here, missing the more simple life. Old school is more and more appealing.I recently unplugged my only smart TV, it’s refurbished, and purchased a dumb flat screen TV. Dumb TVs are very hard to find. Still have old VCR and separate DVD player but they aren’t hooked up yet.

@KodiakIsland I haunted Facebook MP for over three months, till I found sellers with good ratings and who had the exact equipment that I needed. The tv had to be old school and it's measurements needed to fit with my cabinet and it had to have ports to a VHS/DVD player. Same for a SuperNintendo -- There needed to be a place where its cables could fit.It's hard to find a VHS/DVD player in good shape! I had to be really patient because price WAS an issue. Finally found em‐ for less!!!

@MMA 💕Oh my gosh! I have a VCR on hand for the old home videos . We watched them this last weekend. I hadn’t seen them in years. I was worried because I inadvertently left my VHS tapes in the garage where the temperature is not controlled. I was so thankful they played! My Dad who recently passed is on a few of those videos. I was so grateful to have them! Everything felt so much slower and calmer on those tapes. My kids enjoyed watching them with me. I’m feeling this post a lot!💕

@HeyLiberty Get your home grown movies converted to CD if you can. I lost my own home movies due to heat warping. Riverdance had the same problem. It was skipping and snowy for seconds at a time as it played, every few minutes. I still enjoyed it though! Its clamshell video case was brittle with age and fell apart as I opened it to get out the tape. I'm going to buy a new copy of this Riverdance. It's OOP, true, but still (and surprisingly!) it's widely available, even unopened!

@MMA Will do. I bet that’s right. I have an outdoor antenna for over the air channels but do have Roku as well. Rarely the TV is on but when it is, whether Over the Air or Roku prefer channels that air old TV shows and movies.

@MMA Something similar her in mid Mo. I think MyZou and Me TV are a couple. There are others now, some by genre; mystery channel, I think it is called, is one that has suspenseful movies , 60s and 70s cop shows. Others carry older sitcoms and dramas like Andy Griffith and The Waltons.Was so surprised the number of over the air channels today.

@MMA Oh no!! 💔My husband started looking into converting them because there is no back up. I am definitely on top of this! I can’t risk that again. I’m so glad you were able to drift back in time with those videos! How neat they still sell Riverdance on VHS!I was thinking if perusing some antique shops around here or thrift stores. Sometimes they have some lucky stashes of still wrapped tapes (good ones) for cheap.

@MMA Good for you. Sometimes the old ways are the best.I love Riverdance.When I need to go back to a simpler time, I put on Murder She Wrote. Nothing simpler than Jessica Fletcher hammering out a novel on a typewriter in her kitchen.

@MMA At least you don't have betamax.As much as I like old school, a big flat screen can be relatively cheap. Get an Apple TV (box) if you're into streaming. If not, then the lower res VHS tapes actually look crappy on a modern screen. They work way better with those clunky old CRTs. But a square would look warped on most of them now, and they're so heavy!
