And it's called a cob oven, @darrenoneill & @ThatLARRYSHOW. Cob is a mixture of clay, sand, straw and water. And it was a super fun project (pinned) and it is the center of fun in our neighborhood. Everybody should have some kind of wood fired oven in their backyard; they're tremendous to cook and bake with, provide ambience when entertaining, and will serve you well if and when the lights go out. And I've named mine The Phoenix, as it's risen from the ashes of my first oven, Al Jolson.
