@p I've got shit piling up and remove some of it. Most I try to keep is my laptop, kb/m, extra monitor, router and a notebook. Try to keep enough space for another monitor/laptop if I ever need it for whatever reason. Receipts and everything else are stuffed in a drawer though.

@thendrix @mia @p personally, one big monitor does the job. not gonna buy 10 gigashit monitors if the window manager can achieve the same shit.although having one extra one for chats/reading and the main one for gaming/movie/work seems ideal

@p All of my computer stuff is inside a case on the floor. If I really wanted to, then all the cables would go behind the desk.Also some people don't consume things at their desk. I would never let open liquids near my computer stuff. A thermos is easily moved for a photo op.

@MaybeJustALittleCrazyTalk I cheat, I have a secret table behind me where all the clutter is so the desk is always mostly clean 😂I have to admit though, this table is still cleaner than it could be, it's mostly books, a printer, a pile of papers, remotes and a haircomb.I have a cabinet for broken hardware and drawers for cables — and I do have a habit of putting shit there right after using it, same for kitchenware and cans/bottles 🤷@p

@Paradox The beverage region is on the opposite side of the desk from the computer. I have not ever spilled a beverage on a computer.I feel like the facetious tone of the initial post has been missed and like we're actually talking about the mechanics of how to keep an office space free of clutter.

@skypage The best battlestation pic I ever took was the one where I got a new place and tried to move my desk by rolling it, connected to a UPS, because it was only a few blocks. The goal was to preserve my uptime across the move.Unfortunately, desk wheels do not actually function properly if you try to roll the desk over three blocks of sidewalk and the wheels actually broke off when we got to the driveway that lead to the new place. @p People get weird about normal things when other people can see them. They want to use their surroundings to signal that they are organized and put together, or at least that's what I assume. I personally don't care if someone sees my bed unmade or my desk a mess, this is where I live and this is what it looks like when I live here.

@p Also people too often assume that many things on a desk is equivalent to clutter. Sometimes you need half an inch of papers and three notebooks and a laptop and dinner and various other things frequently enough where they belong on your desk for at least a bit of time. Though sometimes I wonder how many things some people actually do at their desk when it is pristine like in a reddit photo, but then I realize I am too autistic to understand people's reasoning and habits.
