𝕏Musk's logo for "X" is literally just Unicode Character “𝕏” (U+1D54F).Which means that #Musk can't trademark the logo.He's such a genius isn't he? 💩#X #Twitter #𝕏

@Rii_cck It sounds like he wouldn’t be able to trademark derivates, but he should be able to trademark the specific logo he is using 🤷🏾♂️

@realcaseyrollins @Rii_cck Elon doesn't have a logo for X; it's literally just a UTF-8 character (U+1D569, Mathematical Double-Struck Small X).https://www.compart.com/en/unicode/U+1D569He shouldn't be able to trademark it.

@Rii_cck Does trademark really work like that? I mean UPS I think has a trademark on a particular colour of brown - I'm guessing he could trademark it as a logo for a communications company.

@realcaseyrollins @Rii_cck Copyright those particular implementations? Yes; they're "artwork".Trademark the glyph as a logo? No; it's a UTF-8 glyph, shipped everywhere for a long time.Trademark the name "X" by itself as a software product? No; there's been decades of prior art.(I'm not a lawyer though... I have just witnessed people talk about copyright and trademarks for decades, as both a designer and developer. I might be wrong... I'm happy to be corrected by actual lawyers. 😉)

@garrett @Rii_cck Ah okay, I think we are on the same page here 👍🏾I wonder if he will try to copyright the letter X; if so, I don’t think he’d be successful due to the precedent of #OhioState’s failed attempt to trademark the word “the”.#XCorp is already copyrighted though.

@penguin42 You're right. What matters for trademark law is its association within a field with an entity. And there are different levels of trademark restriction depending on how generic it is. So he can use it as a trademark (he already is) and could almost certainly register it, too. He wouldn't be able to stop many other uses of it, but it is "trademarked."
