Ubisoft is deleting accounts that haven't logged in for 4 years. So if you dont play an Ubisoft game for 4 years you lose all of your Ubisoft games. The ones that you've paid for.https://www.pcgamer.com/your-ubisoft-account-can-be-suspended-and-subsequently-permanently-deleted-for-inactivity-taking-your-games-library-with-it/

@LottieVixen or we could just stop paying for Ubisoft games and go back to piracy. :blobcatpirate:

@LottieVixen @Polychrome they wrote/modified a torrent client to artificially restrict how much of a game was out there and being seededreason given was that they don't like repackers like FitGirl

@Polychrome @bartholin You get an email up front asking you to login. It's pretty normal and actually reassuring that companies delete their customer data after a couple of years of inactivity. I anonymize my client's data a year after they stop being my client as well. It's good practice.

@seb_tmg @bartholin deleting a customer's data is different than "deleting all of their transactions".Unless a customer elects to have their "purchases" wiped out, they should NEVER be deleted. No customer will opt-in, I guarantee that.If you want to take security seriously, deactivate their account and require them to contact you to re-instate it.Don't delete the records permanently.

@Polychrome @bartholin I disagree. I need to keep transaction data for 5 years for tax reasons after that I'm recommended to delete it for privacy reasons. Even in healthcare it's not uncommon to delete patient data after a person has been diseased for over 10 years. I only anonymize data for the study / research value. Ubisoft is thinking in similar terms for good reason. After 4 years and refusing to login, they assume you're no longer their customer or maybe dead.

@seb_tmg @bartholin Ubisoft has since responded to the article stating that accounts which have game purchases attached to them will be spared deletion for inactivity. So in effect your business practice is now worse than Ubisoft's. :meow3cSmirk:
