They fucked up big time with the stupid half measure of not actually going in to destroy the Ukrainian government, instead they wanted to negotiate like fucking cucks. Now they face the entire production capacity of the west/whatever human capital Ukraine has left and their best hope is that western governments get tired of funding a losing war. Some Russians (personally agree) think that Putin fucked up in 2014 when he refused to commit troops after Majdan. Ukraine's military wasn't a fraction of what it is today, and who knows, he could've prevented 2022 in 2014.

The very same bunch who convinced him not to commit in 2014. The guys he let go of were seen as embarrassments from the Georgian War, but the were convinced that Russia had more than enough troops and equipment to take the country (whole other back story). Watching this war I think the old cadre was vindicated for many reasons (one of them was how well the militias were doing against the UA). The only fair critique against them would be the strength of the Russian economy then, I don't think they would of fared as well then as they did today with the sanctions and all.Could Ukraine have back then withheld a Russian invasion? I'm pretty convinced that answer is no. The big tell there was Kiev's and the West's rush for the Minsk agreement because the UA was collapsing, against militias.
