The way I see it, rebased has the most potential to actually be moar successful since it has a steady cash flow. You can't expect a handful of people to implement activitypub software and have it wellmaintained without giving them enough resources to do it full time.Case in point: Funkwhale has been stagnating with their AP features for years by now. Ofc there is also the point of piracy but it's not the only issue funkwhale federation has

@mario mario, if you choose rebased you are guarenteed to have updates as long as poast exists

@mario we chose pleroma then rebased because alex was maintaining his fork. now any changes i make i talk to alex about or alex implements. so

@graf that's why I chose it. It has the moat streamlined development circles and actually seems like a software project and not a abandoned repo with some irrelevant PR once in a while from hobbyists.

@graf the thing i'm wondering about is if the entire design around pleoma wasn't already doomed from the start. It's borderline impossible to get a good picture of the codebase as a whole since so many people worked on it, disregarding AP specs and those people in the know have mostly moved on, apart from alex.I also tried out akkoma and I find it super funny how they just continued where pleroma left of.That's kinda to be expected, since again it's not software engineering, it's hobbyist making PRs.

@graf i'm very sorry to say it but that's somewhat to be expected.Devs do their workpackages and leave with little regard for documentation or maintainability. It's somewhat different but i'm doing work with drivers and ffs realtek, intel, qualcomm and all of the big hardware manufacturers just don't care. I'd assume it's even worse with projects from hobbyists without employees who should take care of that

@mario @graf It's not just about docs. Pleroma has potentially the worst database schema design imaginable, and Poast is the largest instance using it, so graf is hitting every problem with it first. No one I've seen has been willing to give it the full rewrite it desperately needs.

truuu, but i think many problems could have been prevented if the schema was to be released with some diagrams showing what is actually happening.afaik the only reference we have is the schema file and the AP specs
