If this latest move by the Chrome team to discriminate against browsers that weren't compiled by "trusted partners" (like, say, MSFT and GOOG) doesn't convince you to switch to a non-Chromium browser then I have a hard time imagining what will.

@trevorflowers Public proposal of a bad idea doesn't cut it for me. If Firefox renewed #FirefoxOS or at least committed to PWAs and Project Fugu equivalent, I'd switch in a heartbeat and happily donated thousands of dollars and/or my time to help make it happen. Is there any other non-Chromium browser worth considering?

If that's implemented then the clients and sites that use it will be on a different platform than the open web. GOOGweb? Corpweb? Chweb? I dunno.

@ondra Project Fugu is a contentious topic. There is disagreement about whether the web should have feature parity with native apps, whether increased browser complexity has eliminated competition from any group without GOOG's resources, and how much power GOOG has to dictate new APIs regardless of other browser teams' objections. Frankly, it has more nuance than can be discussed in microposts.

@trevorflowers Yeah, I believe that Google's resources are the main thing currently keeping web relevant and opening the OS space to other players but of course it's a double-edged sword. I don't like being stuck with the only power option either. Especially seeing how my interests as a user are often diverging from Chromium's lately.

@ondra I use Firefox every day on every device. It's fine and where there is a problem it's almost always because the site dev wrote exclusively for Chromium. It simply isn't true that there's no alternative for the great majority of web usage. At the very least you could use FF (or derivatives) and on the rare occasion the site is GOOG-only then fall back to Chrome.

@trevorflowers I'm sure Firefox is perfectly suitable for everyday browsing and I should probably start using it more.Though I want my browser to support bluetooth, NFC, USB etc. I use those features often myself and/or am working on projects using them.Even Safari is now catching up on PWA support as they will be forced to start to compete thanks to EU legislation. Why Mozilla is still following Apple's old strategy of protecting the App Store revenues is beyond me.https://social.unextro.net/@ondra/105630325356967790
