       @feld@bikeshed.party FWIW you can, eminent domain is strong enough in USAthe problem is that requires a ton of political support, and not making a political suicide by doing such projects in the USA is incredibly hard, even in California the high speed rail project had to make itself shittier for the primary purpose (fast transit between LA and SF) to get political support from the smaller counties it wouldn't serve in it's optimal route that goes through nowhere with essentially no stops, and had to change it's route to have a bunch of stops in a bunch of small cities, or else it wouldn't have had enough political support to ever happen in the first place.
