I haven't been following it very closely but looks like Mastodon's monthly active user count climbed back up to 2.1M over the last couple of weeks. Not far off from our last peak!

@Gargron Sorry to be off topic, but why are there no Hindus in Mastodon? Not that I miss them, but it's an strange deviation.

@MarkoHelgenko Mastodon doesn't do any marketing, it's all word of mouth, so if you want more Hindus then tell more Hindus about how cool Mastodon is. I tend to mention Mastodon a lot in my circle of friends.

@autistic_enby I apologize in advance for not knowing how to address you properly, but like in the Tarantino movie, I am not looking for a warehouse of living Hindus, but wondering why they are not here.

@MarkoHelgenko the simple answer is that for some reason the word of mouth hasn't reached them. It's a network effect, things start somewhere and spread through connections. One reason why some part of the network is reached late is that it's relatively semi-isolated or maybe just far from the source of origin.

@autistic_enby I already know the simple answer. I am interested in something else. Why does a country of about a billion people, where the percentage of English speakers is probably higher than in Ukraine, don't have cases of mastodon? An interesting anomaly.

There are Indian/Hindi* instances:- Charcha.co (Admin: @Deus)- india.goonj.xyz (Admin: @boop@india.gonj.xyz)(Thank you for your work, BTW! 🧡🤍💚)But your question is valid, as the Global South is totally underrepresented. Mastodon is still strongly dominated by white North America and Europe. Japan has some very large instances, but there is limited interaction. Latin/South America is also growing. With every new wave, some new regions join, I saw in the last wave entering many Turkish accounts, for example. The network effect is a thing. We need to be welcoming to people from these places and invest some time to make the early adopters feel comfortable (e.g. by boosting them to facilitate them to find their peers). For a more diverse Fediverse! :fediverso: :black_sparkling_heart: #FediDiversity #GlobalCommunity #India #Hindi #Fediversity #GlobalSouth*As you asked for Hindus, I unsure whether you are interested in followers of the religion or people from India.@MarkoHelgenko @autistic_enby

@earthworm @Deus @MarkoHelgenko @autistic_enby Thanks for the notification! I really want to follow people from more than just North America and Europe. A second cheer for a more diverse #Fediverse!

@seanbala @earthworm @Deus @autistic_enby I used to think the same. I still do. But I'm starting to have some doubts. But just a little, and not all the time.

Marko - Please tag the [at]mastodonindians[at]a.gup.pe group if you want to connect or have any posts/questions related to India. I believe there’s many of us (from India) following that group. The #India hashtag is overused and I’ve seen many don’t bother about it much.

@Deus @autistic_enby @earthworm @seanbala I already tried using the hashtag you suggested, but I got no response. I think this is how you get the idea that Americans never landed on the moon.

No, I’m not talking about a hashtag. I meant this group. See pic. Notice the @ symbol. If you add that in your post, it will be sent out to all members in that group. It’s followed by (I think) a majority of people from India in the Fediverse.

@allenstenhaus What other decentralized federated system are you comparing it to?I’m not saying that you don’t make valid points. I’m just pointing out that what we’re seeing is the growth of a system that isn’t controlled by financial greed. Who’s to say if “infinite growth” is a bad thing when what’s growing is a shift in how people perceive the true power of social media?

@Mrfunkedude @allenstenhaus This ^(infinite growth can also be something intangible like love, community or better... it doesn't always have to be objects/money)
