Ted Lieu thinks that if Cannon grants future delays that move the trial to after the presidential election, then the election becomes a referendum on whether Trump should face trial. He also thinks that would cause a massive blue wave, dwarfing 2018.

Personally I think that if Trump is on the ballot there will be a blue wave in 2024. He hasn't gotten more popular since 2020, and a recent Pew report shows him falling.The only thing I felt that could go wrong are botched prosecutions resulting in acquittals.

@peachfront @Teri_Kanefield Everything you are referring to are criminal acts that took place during their campaigns or presidencies, but not brought to light or investigated until after they took office. They had not been charged with crimes, nor held accountable in any way prior to being elected. This country will not elect a known and charged crime lord to be President.

I point this out because there will be Democrats, such as Pritzger, supporting him in the primary bc it makes that blue wave more likely. His strength is bad for the GOP, but it is also bad for the country. Even if he loses the general election, the prominence of his voice is bad for all of us

No one, not a single person on this planet, predicted that he would instigate an insurrection or steal classified documents. What we have been aware of is that he was a POS his entire life. This country does have an unhealthy tolerance for that as evidenced by the current social media meltdown. We will not elect someone sitting in a courtroom.

@noondlyt @skua @Teri_Kanefield ummm… no. I was not at ALL surprised that he attempted a coup or that he stole documents. If someone told me in 2016 that he would do these things I would say “sounds on-brand”. He literally said as much when he was running in 2016! Everyone told me he was just being hyperbolic. But no, he wasn’t. Compulsive liar he may be but he also compulsively tells on himself. And that habit has trickled down throughout the GOP because they’ve been in the habit of saying the quiet part out loud for a while now. And I *listen* to those quiet bits because that is where the truth of their intentions lie. (This is why I wasn’t surprised when Clinton gutted the social safety net, because he literally said he was going to do it.) Anyone who has survived an abusive relationship knows that abusers tell on themselves constantly. The hard part is believing them.
