Talking about #emacs... with the upcoming version 29, you no longer need to '(add-to-list 'term-file-aliases '("foot" . "xterm"))One less line in my .emacs 🎉

@dnkl Is there a particular reason why you use Emacs in a terminal?

@grtcdr I started doing that when I first switched to Wayland, since Emacs didn't have a native wayland backend at that time.I liked the simplicity of it, and now I just install the nox version of emacs. There aren't really anything I miss from the GUI. Even when I did use the graphical version, I always disabled all graphical elements in it 🤷

@dnkl I've been building Emacs from source and since it was the last application that required Xwayland and PGTK fixed that, I just disabled Xwayland and went about my way.I would use Emacs from the terminal if the margins weren't so irregular (as shown in the attached picture). It also looks like Emacs sticks the terminal cursor at the last position while it takes over cursor movement within the program itself and that butchers the whole experience for me.

@grtcdr the trick is to use the same theme in the terminal as in Emacs. That way at least the background color is the same.As for the cursor, that's not something I recognize. As far as I know, Emacs uses the terminal "hardware" cursor. I certainly don't have that "glitch" in the last column...

@uncomfyhalomacro think it'll be this year. But open source projects rarely have dates. They release when it's ready :)

@dnkl Thanks for the info, I'm not sure I want to pursue this though, it doesn't seem worth the trouble as I would have to make an Emacs rendition of fugit-winter.

@djrmarques @dnkl No need to wait, compiling from source is simple. There are numerous blog posts about this. Example: https://batsov.com/articles/2021/12/19/building-emacs-from-source-with-pgtk/People use FOSS and forget that the first S stands for "source". Use that to your advantage!

@holgerschurig @djrmarques I often switch to git builds after a release branch has been created, just to get a headstart on the new release :)
