A West Virginia federal judge ruled the state's prison system can't force inmates to participate in religious activities. In the end, all of this forced conversion therapy by conservatives begs a question -- can there be true faith when there isn't a choice? #politics #uspol #uspoli #uspolitics #prison #westvirginia #christian #christianity #fascism #religion https://apnews.com/article/west-virginia-atheist-corrections-prison-andrew-miller-a431dcba19dea53fec098d23755bc594

@stopgopfox Conservatives don't want faith. They want conformity.

@stopgopfox ... Uh-yup: Prison Corp of America, Chuck Colson, going back decades. Btw, begging the question means assuming as a given the very thing that is in dispute, e.g., the slave status of Dred Scott (state v. federal citizenship) or the relentless theocratic conflation of an embryo with an actual person. Using beg the question in the sense of "suggests" (a further question) is a strategic error. It grants conservatives sth they have not earned, a triumph of theft over hard labor.

@BruceMirken Well put. That's the point, even more than the cruelty.

@newtonsommelier You make an excellent point about using "begs the question." The reason I use this approach is because it insinuates modern conservatives fear they -- and the rest of society -- won't have faith if it isn't imposed. But in terms of the issue at hand, there isn't a question at all -- what they are doing is wrong, against the constitution, and done in bad faith.
