       Conservatives claims to hate the liberal media are undermined by their willingness to feed the media machine money, as well as to defend rent-seeking schemes like copyright. Most of them go so far as to call filesharing "theft", which is an obvious lie to anyone who has investigated the IP laws -- but then they don't care about the truth, they actually love the system that inevitably produces evil, they just wish it wouldn't produce evil, rather like an alcoholic who wishes he could stay drunk perpetually but just without any of the negative side-effects. But all the wishful thinking in the world won't change reality, starving the beast of money & gutting the IP-laws will.

       @RogerFalcon IP is to property what troons are to real women. It undermines real property, as "creators" want to hold on to what they've sold off, thinking they have the "right" to perpetually profit off work they did ten, twenty, fifty years ago, in the same way that bricklayers & ditch-diggers don't. It was always a step on the road to the "you will own nothing" economy. But many defend their own dispossession.

       @Bungler Ok. I’m sort of two ways on this. If someone came up and said “I’m the patent holder on the entire hexidecimal system, pay me or come up with something else,” I’d think they should fuck off. On the other hand, I like the idea of refusing to import shit from China that they clearly stole the idea of from the west

       @Bungler They tend to see "the economy" as the thing that's the most valuable in the end and want to serve it as good as they can, blind that it doesn't really love them back.
