I replaced my iPad Pro + Smart Folio Keyboard with a new MacBook Air. I love it. It's about the same weight, somehow *thinner* than the iPad + case combo, and runs actual pro software.That said, I have the hardest time not reaching up to the screen to tap popup alerts or scroll around in windows.

@binsk I love that iPad. The 2018 is so freaking overpowered for what you can install on it. It’s still more powerful than a lot of laptops on the market. And yet, no “real” local shell, no "real” programming editors, etc. etc. etc. iPadOS 17 is the nail in the coffin for me, as Apple did nothing new to unlock all that raw power. OK, fine. A laptop it is.(And it's not like a decked out iPad Pro is the cheap option, either! There’s not a cost reason, like “you've gotta pay X to get all that.)

@binsk Oh, and yes: you can run iPad apps on Mx CPUs. I just now downloaded one from the App Store and launched it to be certain.

@tek I’m reaaaally surprised. None of my laptops haven’t had a touchscreen in over 10 years, and they’re way lower-end than that. Apple’s being super cheap.I’m in the other camp: I hated them having touchscreens! All those fingerprints would drive me nuts! At least on a tablet, I can angle it so I don’t see them!While I’m at it, what did the bomb end up being?

@szakib That’s nearly what I had before with the iPad + keyboard folio. I used it in laptop-lite mode 99% of the time.

@bougiewonderland I think it's more of a gap between macOS and iPadOS. One's made for touch, and the other isn't so it doesn't do it at all.Went back with Tek Jr, but didn't get the bomb. We certainly will soon, though!

@tek I think the MacBook Mx laptops are some of the best consumer products I’ve touched. Probably hyperbole. Also those notifications are horrible lol.
