HOW BIG A SPONGE WOULD YOU NEED TO SOAK UP THE CHESAPEAKE BAY?I know you're all dying to know this, and since I'm supposed to be finishing a newsletter, I worked through this calculation instead. ----Okay. So we don't know the exact volume of the #ChesapeakeBay , but let's assume that it's approximately 68 trillion liters.A typical kitchen #sponge should be able to absorb 10X its weight in water. So if the density of water is of 1 g/cm³, a 1 cm³ sponge could absorb about 10 cm³ of water.

@jerrylevine Are we assuming a massive dam extending out from Norfolk that separates the bay from the ocean so that replacement saltwater doesn't flow in to replace what gets soaked up?

@vees I mean, I wasn't concerned with that part. But yes, it would require a massive dam to block the flow of water back in. I have also considered sending a rocket to cut out a giant ice cube from a comet to fight climate change.
