ad blocking is not piracy; and its not morally wrong.noone is obligated to your attention, and no ad provider can make you sit and watch an ad (in fact, they calculate their rates based upon the principle that most people will ignore it)whenever any media personality or youtuber tells you that using adblock is piracy, remind them that letting ad run while you alt tab is essentially stealing from the Ad provider, therefore its not any better or worse than running adblock, and noone is able to force you to pay attention to something. In reality theyre not making a moral point- just thinking about their money in the same way the ad guy is

further point to this: if thousands of people suddenly start turing off their adblockers and just ignoring the ads instead, it will lower click-through rates and thus reduce the amount the ad companies pay for an impression. noone is being hurt by your adblock, the ad company actually quite likes it as they dont pay for blocked ads- I'd wager they actually prefer people who hate ads simply block them rather than being shown one at cost and ignoring it.

content creators weren't whinging about adblock when shows paid for commercial slots; its only now that ad providers are able to tell if the ad has been blocked or not has the discourse started. noone ever said fast forwarding ads on your VCR was piracy.

I would instead focus on practicality rather than morality: creators need to keep the lights onso support them; if thats by watching ads with the sound off so be it, but also buying products and giving donations are fine. Fund what you love, but dont try and argue there is some moral imperative for people to giveup their time, if a service chooses to monitise through ads, they do so with the understanding that you cannot force people to accept them
