If you're wondering how my radio interview went this morning, I got a question about the phrase "quiet quitting" and was able to go off about how stupid it is that we culturally expect people to go "above and beyond" at work ... so I'd say it went well. :)

@grammargirl Glad to hear it. I'd argue that 'we' don't, it's our bosses who do... I absolutely do not expect anyone in the team I line manage to work more than they should and, if and when they do, they get overtime for very minute of it. But I'm willing to admit that this might be a me (and other left wing people) thing.

@grammargirl I was given "meets expectations" on my job review, because "we gave you more to do and you did it, and we gave you more responsibilities and fulfilled them, and we needed you to train on unrelated processes and skills and you did... so you met our expectations."

@grammargirl What's the opposite of "quiet quitting"? In my last year before retiring from teaching, I took on the management over trade union rights for all staff; I invented a satirical character in work emails to annoy the school owner; and eventually got thrown out of the door, before winning a court case for unfair dismissal (with compensation). Is that "loud quitting"? 😁

@cwwilkie @grammargirl Hah, I've also gotten a "met expectations" because "we expected a lot of you and you delivered". My manager later admitted (when neither of us were working there) that the company had a quota for how many "good" reviews they allowed managers to issue each year, because pay raises were tied to that. So he would spread the glowing reviews around to make sure everyone was getting raises, just couldn't all be at once. He would also sometimes be commanded to give poorer reviews to certain people that the bosses didn't personally like or who were making too much money and they wanted to "starve them out" ...
