       Mastodon absolutely needs more journalists. We should not have millions of people boosting one another’s ideas without a solid contingent of people in here professionally trained to vet stories, check facts, and use best practices for sharing news. It is, imo, an urgent issue & critical for the ongoing success of the fediverse #Press

       I have zero patience for “no change” traditionalists in this space. the one thing standing between us and a whole lotta hurt is people practicing fact checking, professional thoughtfulness, and journalistic rigor at scale and everywhere. yes we need to be able to text search public posts, quote toot, and increase ease for users. sorry there is no room for viewing fedi as your private hobby, the world needs fedi to work well for journalists and organizers

The days of white reply guy norm enforcement are done on here. You’re done, we don’t want to hear it*and the reason fedi needs to work for everyone is because there is a nonzero chance it ends up as a crucial global info sharing network if/when others fail or are too compromised by billionaires to function

       @seachanger I feel like the chaff is in the air as everyone tries out mastodon, post, bluesky, spoutable, spill and jesus-be-a-restraining-order threads. The lawyers and journalists are necessary to have in numbers on this kind of social, but please let's not consolidate on another tech narcissist because that's where they first leapt. Also, the fevered need for the Twitter bluechecks to rebuild their followers on a new thing is making them sweaty.

       @seachanger the thing is, I think it can be designed to accommodate many kinds of uses, safely and for everyone. The longer I spend here the better I can kind of see the light at the end of the tunnel

       @maria same. And I agree. And you’re right, but I find if I present that to many of these reply guys they just keep arguing for “nothing needs to change” so I think a few doors need to be shattered with battering rams lol

I was a reporter for a decade so I know its flaws... but ethical and transparent #journalism remains so crucial to a free and safe society. #Mastodon is only starting to make sense to me. It's a steep learning curve but when you get it, wow you GET it. I really want the fediverse to thrive and survive-- and that means a greater variety of voices.Great discussion. #thankyou
