I'm moving all my VPS need to OpenBSDAms@bsd.network. I've already moved my git server (#LinodeFreeSince2023) and my homepage (still on Vultr) is soon to follow. This raised one problem. I like that OpenBSDAmsterdam is basically a small company a not some cross-continent conglomerate. I think I can move all my public compute needs there. This will leave me with a need of #DNS provider. I'm still using Vultr and it works great but when I move out of there, where should I go? Just use namecheap or is there some similarly small company doing the domain piping? I've looked at Dynamic DNS in the past (https://michal.sapka.me/2022/ddns/) but maybe someone can recommend me something that doesn't cost 60 usd per yer?

@ms I don't know about Vultr but with DigitalOcean you can use their DNS for free as long as you have an account.

@louis @OpenBSDAms It's already hipster in the sea of Twitter-infused VSCode users :-)But it can always be *more* hipster.

@ms @OpenBSDAms Both because I wanted my #DNS to be portable (if I ever wanted to switch providers) and because I was concerned about hosting companies monetizing DNS traffic, I opted to continue running my own server. One primary on an OpenBSD VPS running NSD, two secondaries at a friend’s ISP, forwarders at #Quad9. Works fine.

@davidnewman @OpenBSDAms Self host. I think this may be a nice adventure. I'll see :-)

@ms @OpenBSDAms joker.com will register and host your DNS inclusive of that, other registrars will offer similar service, typically with a API, not bind files though. Many folks do do the friends-exchange trick: you are slave for my domains and I will slave yours (or do rsync to the NS and do multi-master)

@hucste 1984 seems like exactly what I am looking for. I'll try them in a few days. Thank you!
