Their track record is defeating stone age tech Natives, lower tech divided Latin American states, Dying Empires (Spain), and collapsing Sandfuckistan shit holesThe only near peer they fought was Britain and Jaypan, Germany doesn't count both times because they came in late and had the help of three great powers alongside them.
