Bike History: President Lincoln owned the only bike in Washington and would lead the Secret Service on chases around the capital. #BikeToot #BikeTooter #Cycling #Bike

@eeen @hembrow That's an AI generated image (no cranks). President Lincoln died in 1865 before the development of the safety bicycle with chain drive in 1879 or pneumatic tyres in 1887.

@jgrg @eeen @hembrow Also: photography at the time did not allow for fast shots: pictures had to be posed, sometimes for hours. While there are true pictures of President Lincoln, this is definitely not one of them. Cameras did not have the "shutter speed" at the time to take that type of picture.

@jgrg @eeen @hembrow That is the first thing I thought when I saw the picture: "Fake, because there is no way hey could have snapped Lincoln on his bike with the photography technology they had at the time".Compare and contrast with the few pictures of Lincoln that are available: he is almost always shown seated, precisely because he had to pose for a long time for the photographer.Kudos to the people who spotted the AI revealing details, though!

@ParadeGrotesque @eeen @hembrow Also: his saddle is set too low! His knees will suffer if he rides long like that.
