Okay, I've tried out all sorts of free monospace fonts. I concluded that there is no such thing as "best", as you might have guessed.Emacs renders DejaVuSans Mono [1] beautifully and it looks even better with some added line-spacing (1 pixel). Foot looks delightful with Roboto Mono [2]. Sway and Qutebrowser pair really well with Inconsolata [3].1. https://github.com/dejavu-fonts/dejavu-fonts2. https://github.com/googlefonts/roboto3. https://github.com/googlefonts/Inconsolata What fonts do you use, and why?

@grtcdr I use IBM Plex Mono. That is the font I always go back to whenever I try out a new one.It is my absolute favourite because it has this slight touch of typewriter yet is still modern enough to render very nicely in every editor I use (but make sure you use the "medium" variant).https://fonts.google.com/specimen/IBM+Plex+Monohttps://www.ibm.com/plex/

@grtcdr If #IBM should be loved for anything, it should be for the aesthetics of its typewriters and their fonts. Sometimes I wish we could transport ourselves back to those times:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_Selectric#/media/File:IBM_Selectric_Composer_(2).jpg

@louis I've never had the pleasure of using typewriters or things of this nature, I'd also love to go back in time and experience technology in its early forms.
