Fran Dresher gave a powerful speech announcing the writers strike.https://youtu.be/J4SAPOX7R5MShe also used the phrase "the jig is up" a couple of times. Here's more about the origin of that phrase from the Grammarphobia blog:https://www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2021/04/jig.html

In case you're wondering, AP style is "writers strike," no apostrophe.

@grammargirl Thank you for posts such as this they are especially helpful to those of us who are #Blind and often consume much content through auditory means. You're always kind to present things so clearly and I and many others express our gratitude to you.

@grammargirl Hmmm. "Writers strike" is a statement of an action, while "writers' strike" describes a strike belonging to writers. It seems both would be correct. :)

@orgog You're right. They are both correct. AP had to pick one, and they picked "writers strike."

@grammargirl My pleasure I was taught by my parents to be grateful and appreciative so taking the time to do so brings me joy and hopefully does for others as well. π

@grammargirl except she is talking about the actors strike. The writers strike has been going on for quite a while already.

@grammargirl @orgog And AP is associated press, so we are still free to use an apostrophe on ActivityPub, right? ππ

@grammargirl Wait, why? It's a strike by writers. It's their strike. Why is it not "writers' strike"?
