@WashedOutGundamPilot That is a different palmetto, there was palmetto armory in the 80s and I think up to mid 90s till the AWB killed them IIRC. PSA is only like 15-20 years old, they came out early 2010s I think.

@Marshall1Banana @WashedOutGundamPilot The berlin wall had not yet fell so ak's were still more pricey, romania had yet to flood the market with parts kits for 50 bucks a pop. The sks was not even really in america yet till the late 80s early 90s besides bring backs and a few chink imports.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @D_Zanzer I have 4 sks's I kept over the years where I got 2 chinese ones for I want to say 300 for both a russian for 250 and a yugo for 200. The only thing I let go of that sucks I sold a m39 fin nagant for like 250 bucks 12 years ago cause they were just cheap and everywhere and now thats probably like 1300 bucks.

Luckily a friend had just bought it so I added Olympic to the “do not buy” list that day.I don’t think I’ve ever sold any gun stuff I’ve gotten over the years no matter how janky (probably why I still have an AP9 lol). I view it kind of like precious metals; it always goes up over time. But in the case of those SKS’s, I can remember a time when gun shows had crates of them still covered in cosmoline for $99 a pop. I kick myself for not buying a truck load.

@D_Zanzer @TalmudTranslator I have a box of orphan shit I would literally give away for free, stuff for outdated oddball belgian pistols and funky euro rifles. Stuff like 12ga saiga mags and weird Sako optic mounts or M1A lugs. A lot of it can’t even be sold because I engraved my name on it to prevent mixups….I stometimes look at it and think about tossing it out in the trash just so I don’t feel guilty when I look at it. Or I could just buy all those guns all over again. I do miss a couple of them.

@BroDrillard @D_Zanzer @TalmudTranslator Yeah, splurged on one of the “good” ones and even after leaving it with a “knowledgable” friend for “tuning” it still choked on anything but hipower ammo. I don’t have the patience for that kind of thing, I don’t like having a toy that makes me pay a buck every time I let one of the kids send a round down the barrel. It was weird, too, like it hated everything but slugs and milspec 00. We took it out once, asked if he wanted it after he’d kept it in his shop for like, a year, and sold it to him on the spot. Don’t miss it at all. I think someone might have taken the rest of them, come to think of it. I had a couple of those super long mags for it and a buddy was asking, so he probably took ‘em. I have a standing offer to let frens take stuff if it’s in the ‘free’ pile. I have too much shit as it is. It’s just the way my family tends to operate. Easy come, easy go I guess

@BroDrillard @D_Zanzer @TalmudTranslator Before my 2nd to last move I cleaned house. I found myself just burned out. As a kid I was greedy, when I struck gold early on I went a little too wild buying all the stuff I’d wanted, and found it felt like an anchor more than a pleasure. Everything has a maintenance cost, a headache attached. I have to genuinely love it in order to dedicate the time. I still have a full storage unit full of goodies I need to either sell off or just give away. If someone were to make me an offer to restore it at cost, and I knew they’d genuinely enjoy it, I’d probably take ‘em up on it, even though I need the money. Hell, look at how cheap they used to be in 2012. Russian, no less.
