Lots of Cat 7 cable has arrived today. With a bit of luck, fibre is coming early next week. From a slow start, things seem to be moving...

@neil What do you need Cat 7 for?

@neil Sure, but what are you doing such that Cat 6 isn't enough?

@mansr > what are you doing such that Cat 6 isn't enough? It was basically the same price, so I guess my question would be "why not"?!

@neil It's stiffer and harder to work with, no?

@mansr Quite possibly, yes.I only need to run it once though, and I'm terminating each end in a patch panel anyway, so I can't see it being a problem.

@neilWill the crimping gear be the same? I had to upgrade my old and trusty crimper recently. These new fangled push through crimp plugs are very subtly different. @mansr

@gruff @neil Cat 7 connectors are different from the 8P8C used for Cat 6 and below.

@neil Depends on how tight your bends are, I suppose.

@mansr > Depends on how tight your bends are, I suppose. It should be fine. And, worst case scenario, I've wasted £50 on an expensive pull-through for some Cat 6.Although I can't see any reason why terminating it in patch panels should be any different to Cat 6...

@neil You can terminate it in a Cat 6 panel jack. Obviously, the link will then not be Cat 7 compliant.
