@tuxedocomputers @kde Oh, I can still remember the days of KDE 1 and 2 and Gnome 2. After that, unfortunately, it only got worse.

@tuxedocomputers @kde Good to know. Probably, #Microsoft is already preparing to rip off some design ideas.

@tuxedocomputers @kde maybe time to update this article https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/en/Whats-the-deal-with-X11-and-Wayland-_1.tuxedo with the timeline of the transition to Wayland as the default?

@tuxedocomputers@linuxrocks.online While I (mostly) support the switch over to Wayland, I think you are not being very transparent about what actually changes. Some applications are neither supported by Wayland nor XWayland (e. g. Peek), I'm experiencing some visual glitches (especially in electron apps), my drag-and-drop for files has an offset compared to my cursor, trying to screen-share in Slack outright crashes the application on Wayland, sharing your entire screen on Discord is not possible at all (unless you install xwayland-video-bridge, with which you share your screen with about 5 FPS, yay!), for streamers and video recorders, OBS will basically break and you have to put in work to replace the screen recording sources with ones that are Wayland-compatible and some things seem outright unfinished. To be clear, I neither want to bash the Wayland developers doing awesome work for basically free, nor bash the decision to switch over to Wayland. I still want to point out that your article sounds to me like “Wayland will basically be the same experience and is functionally almost equivalent” which is just not true. If it included in some way that some things are still unfinished, won't work (especially due to Wayland's increased security) and/or require migration, I would be a lot more happy with it. This is imo. not transparent with what will actually change, especially for non-tech-savy people

@trojaner Technically you're right, but missing transparency is... confusing.Quoting the article:> There is still some work to be done to qualify Wayland as standard for Plasma 6.Followed by a link towards the particular bugreport/working issue: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/merge_requests/2188#note_676355

@tuxedocomputers @kde Ah, the good-old times with #KDE1 and later #KDE2. I loved them both. #KDE3 was then killing my mood for it and I was then finding #FVWM 1 and later 2. Now I stay - after a few attempts - with #FVWM-Crystal .

@tuxedocomputers@linuxrocks.online Okay, maybe “missing transparency” was a bit harsh and to be honest I also didn't immediately notice the link. Nevertheless, I find it confusing that you wrote “[The] change […] will at best not even be noticeable to you as a user”, for example, and in the last sentence link said issue that states that we're not there yet. Maybe I also misread your article and what you've actually meant was “If Wayland is fully finished, you won't feel a change” but I've read it more like “The current state is almost finished and here is a link showing that some polishing is missing to make it the default for Plasma 6”.Also also, as I'm writing this now, I've noticed that I interpreted the section as “Although it is not the default for Plasma 6 yet, we're making it default for our Tuxedo OS, already” because I read this article with the expectation to get a heads up to everything that will be introduced into your OS when the update to Plasma 6 arrives (“Since this directly affects you as a TUXEDO OS user, we will explain in this article which changes you will have to face and what you have to pay attention to.”).So I guess this was a misunderstanding and you were not actually intransparent but the intentions of this article were not very clear to me.Either way, apologies for the harsh words in my previous message 😅

@trojaner@social.trojaner.de “If Wayland is fully finished, you won't feel a change” but I've read it more like “The current state is almost finished and here is a link showing that some polishing is missing to make it#Thanks for your criticism. The above quote is precisely how this was meant. Maybe I can rephrase it to make it clearer.

@tuxedocomputers @kde The KDE developers do an excellent job in providing us with an exceptional desktop experience. I'm eagerly looking forward to the new series of Plasma, as it's my favorite desktop environment. The TUXEDO team also deserves appreciation for their timely updates of TUXEDO OS with the latest KDE enhancements. Thank you all for your hard work and contributions.
