https://www.oracle.com/news/announcement/blog/keep-linux-open-and-free-2023-07-10/Oracle capitalizing on IBM's decision. Here's hoping this whole situation ultimately makes FOSS stronger.

@jstaph Wowza, Oracle is throwing some spicy salt at RH. They aren't a shining beacon of FOSS and transparency, but the drama is quite amusing."Finally, to IBM, here’s a big idea for you. You say that you don’t want to pay all those RHEL developers? Here’s how you can save money: just pull from us. Become a downstream distributor of Oracle Linux. We will happily take on the burden."Wow, the snark is incredible. 10/10.

@lucifargundam @Graycot After sitting on this for a couple of days, I think this whole topic hits differently based on the audience. Oracle, RedHat, Suse, all care about user mind share (of course!). But I care more about what the contributors do. Will projects like Fedora bleed away contributors due to this? Where will they go?

@jstaph @Graycot Have you not contributed to a large project before?

@lucifargundam @Graycot Nothing on the scale of a distribution, but plenty of smaller projects.

@jstaph @Graycot Contributors tend to gravitate to whoever will make life easiest for them to do so. Second to that is their freedoms and contributions. If IBM locks down and Oracle opens up, you'd see a shift in the other direction, but mostly will look for a full substitute that has a better track record than Oracle.
